Political Science or Political Religion?

On occassion I come across something that makes so much sense that I have to talk about it. The Southern Avenger, in the video below, makes so much logical sense that it is hard to disagree with him on anything.

However, he does get a few facts wrong about the Iraq war and the War on Terror but he nails it on the "religionizing" of political and social issues. Especially when it comes to Global Warming.

The idea that being a Conservative or a Liberal should thus dictate what you believe should not even enter a thoughtful humans mind. But all to often, we subjugate ourselves to what we believe instead of what the data of the day reveals.

The SA makes a case that so-called science once told us, and was taught in school, that blacks were biologically inferior to whites and that homosexuals were mentally ill and could be "fixed" with phyciatric treatment and drugs.

Of course those are not the only examples. We were fed a steady diet of ridiculous notions such as we were taught back in the day that women did not have a head for politics or were too emotional to be national leaders. I think Margaret Thatcher dispensed with the too emotional and no head for leadership nonsense.

We have also brushed aside the notion that blacks are in some way biologically inferior as evidenced by our current president. He is very intelligent, good looking and very capable as a human being. Capable as president is another matter.

We note that we have another female Secretary of State who follows a black female Secretary of State. Obviously women can get the job done, all be it the current SS is a bit under utilized but that is a good thing.

So what about this Global Warming thing? Well, what about anything that seems to have a "scientific consensus"? It usually stems from those in power wanting to keep and expand that power. Its all about control which is why when evidence comes about to contradict the current status quo, it is bashed, lambasted and even ignored. Its about control not about seeking the truth. Making blacks inferior was about controling them. Saying women didn't have the temperment for leadership was about keeping control over them. Telling you Global Warming exsist even though scientific data says otherwise is about controling you and me and our every day lives.

True conservatives recognize control and work to thwart it at every turn. Yes sometimes we get sucked into the murky mire of desire and political ease but in the end we usually pony up and admit our mistakes and recognize it is not control that we seek but rather liberty, justice and freedom for all.

Thoughtful article. I've never really bought into the idea of "scientific consensus", and whenever I hear words to the effect of "Science has discovered...", etc, I always have to question, "which scientists? And what agenda are they pushing?"

That was an incredibly racist video.

global warming is happening right now and maybe that's OK with people in the south, like this guy. It's actually a religion to think that there is no climate change going on. Why? Because religion is based on faith, and global warming is based on scientific data (check out NOAA, NASA and the national weather center if you don't believe the EPA data) but people who believe it's not happening are basing their opinion on faith. That makes climate change denialism a religion.
