Martin Luther King and his true dream is on life support

Back in the 50's and 60's when civil rights really took off in this country, a man came to the forefront. I'm not talking about Malcolm X. I am talking about Martin Luther King.

But did MLK think he would see the twisting of civil rights as they are today? I would say not. MLK dreamed of a day when everyone was considered on who they were, not by the color of their skin or in some cases, by their sexual preferences. Although as a Southern Baptist Minister, MLK would NOT have been for homosexual special rights but I digress.

Today we are as polarized as at any time before. We still look at each other as black or white or Asian. Oh, I'm sorry, we are African-American, Asian-American, Native American, Spanish-American or a host of other hyphenated labels. That is not what MLK had in mind.

We still have a government that thinks there is a whole class of people that cannot do without the governments help. Also not what MLK had in mind.

We had people making others feel guilty if they did not think MLK deserved his own holiday. Something MLK would not have been for. He would not have wanted a day for himself.

What MLK wanted was a nation not divided by color, economic class or political divide. He wanted a nation united based on the fact that we are all human, all of us are Gods children. But we have a left wing political system that constantly polarizes people, labels people, want special protection and status for people. Not what MLK was dreaming about.

It is sad that today we celebrate a man that saw unity by being as divided more than we ever have been. Today, I do not celebrate, today I cry.
